My teammate, Nick Diaz, and I chosen to redesign the official website of the ICC (International Cricket Council). The ICC is the official governing board of cricket—think FIFA for cricket—and also where I interned the summer after freshman year (so it’s near and dear to my <3). The website is a hub for news, schedules, scores, and more. The ICC manages and schedules all international tournaments of which there are multiple forms of: World Test Cricket (WTC), One-Day Internationals (ODI), a T20I (Twenty20) to name a few. With all these segments to showcase, the ICC website can seem a bit overwhelming.
Goal
We want to simplify the website so users can find information that they’re actually looking for faster and more clearly.
First Steps
To begin our redesign of the website, we designed five simple wireframes—
Homepage
Men’s fixtures (calendar)
scores
RANKINGS
NEWS
testing & iterating
We performed “Wizard of Oz” to test the effectiveness of our wireframes.
Based on our results we that our organization of the news tab was not as logical or intuitive as we hoped it would be as our subjects found it difficult to find the image gallery—their task.
Ultimately, we decided to remove both “highlights” and “image gallery” from the original “news” page and place them both under “more”. The results of this redesign are shown in the updated wireframe below—
Final Redesign
We decided to add color. Based on all our “Wizard of Oz” testing, we also added a few minor tweaks, but here are our two visual redesigns for the ICC website—

Going back to our goals
In our redesign, we strove to improve the website’s efficiency. Less is more, and that was our approach to make the website more intuitive in its design. Across the board, we increased the font size, utilized more colors to create contrast and organization, as well as reworked a few structural elements. We hope that these changes, along with others we made, make the user experience a more pleasurable one. We hope that fans can go on the website, find what they want quickly and efficiently, and go back to watching the match in no time.
